We have expanded and created a stylish organic cotton line with the world and you in mind. Our cotton is not only grown locally in Java and Indonesia but it is also biodegradable. It is healthy for you and good for the planet! Minimalist-island style dresses and shorts will prove once again that less is actually more.
ORGANIC WEAR LINEÂ is all about beautiful yet simple cuts which promise comfort and simplicity. All clothes from this line are made from the materials that are either recycled or organic. Each collection is purposely created in small, sustainable runs and being out of stock is planned. Everything is cut and sewn by a human hand, plus every person involved in the production of our lines is provided with a safe and comfortable work environment.
SILK & SATIN LINE is made from dead stock materials which means that we upcycled leftover materials turning them into dresses, pants or oversized shirts. This line is super exclusive as each dead stock material changes time from time. Our carefully created pieces might end up being limited edition and once we are out of stock of we might be unable to produce the exact same pieces.
MAKARA means ocean monster in Hindu – like a surfer ripping a wave. The brand is extremely happy to see more and more women joining extreme water sports such as surfing, wind-surfing, body-boarding, paddle-boarding, kite-surfing, etc. Our swimsuits are designed to be worn while being active in water, riding a bike with your shorts on top of the suit, yoga, laying on the beach or attending a party.
The founder of Makara Wear, Gerda Mi is originally from Lithuania but has been living in Bali for a nearly 10 years now. She is a very active female who surfs, does kickboxing & rides motocross bikes. Her background in fashion and attention to detail comes from London and LA where she lived most of her youth. Now her main focus is on leaving as little carbon foot print on the Earth as possible which means eliminating toxic materials and even changing old habits.
Sustainability is what we practice every day by trying to find new ways and new materials to make it better for us and the Planet. We have an ongoing commitment to uncompromising quality, ethics and sustainability. Every fabric is consciously sourced. Each piece is painstakingly fitted and refitted to perfect its cut. Each trim is either hand selected or custom made. Each garment is expertly sourced and crafted in Bali.
We love giving back. Over the past 1.5 years we have been working with the FOOD BANK, supporting and helping Indonesian people to make it through the hard times of COVID-19 by giving food donations and money for baby milk. In the near future we are going to join the Sumatra Orangutan Conservation Programme & Girion to give back to the Planet.
